About White Gold Jewelry //
White gold contains nickel, a common allergen.
Please note that I do not rhodium plate my white gold jewelry. There is no such thing as a naturally occurring white color gold. Pure 24k gold is bright yellow, however it is very soft. Base metals are combined with the pure gold to make other karat weights of gold. For white gold, nickel is often used. As a result, white gold is actually a very pale yellowish white, appearing silver in some light and yellow in others. Large jewelry brands coat this gold with rhodium, which accounts for the bright white silvery color many people believe is the natural tone of white gold. Unfortunately, this plating easily wears away, especially with jewelry that sees daily wear, and has to be reapplied yearly.
